Perhaps you remember the joy and fascination you had as a child when these little wonders were placed in your hand or on a table? Why not share the amazement with a child in your life.

Jumping beans make great first pets for children. They are easy to care for, clean and safe.

Please be advised that Jumping Beans are NOT INTENDED FOR CHILDREN UNDER 4 YEARS OF AGE OR YOUNGER as they are a choking hazard (small parts).

Here are the important facts about jumping beans and jumping bean safety.

  • Jumping beans are not harmful if swallowed. If one or more jumping beans were swallowed, they would pass safely through your child's system.
  • According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture jumping beans are not harmful to the environment . They are legally transported to and are safe in this country.
  • When you receive your jumping beans, the larva inside the jumping bean has already eaten the inside of the seed as it's food. The larva will not emerge from the hard seed to seek food or water. Everything they need is in the seed. If a seed is accidentally punctured or a small portion lifted, the larva inside will spin a patch over the existing hole.
  • Jumping beans will jump (typically) for two to three months before dormancy. After about six months a tiny moth will emerge. Some larva will not emerge, and will naturally die in their pod. If a moth does emerge, it will live two to three days before it dies. It will not eat drapes, clothes, carpets or anything else. If the tiny moth emerges and you and your child are lucky enough to see it, the best thing to do is to point it to the southern sky, wish it well, and let it fly away.
